Grant and Stone History

Grant & Stone is an independent family run merchant for all the trades!

In 1987, Bob & Sue Grant and Richard & Sue Stone (already the owners of a successful plumbers merchants in High Wycombe) heard of the possible sale of a run down builders merchants in the centre of the town. One week after this, they were the new owners renaming the business Grant-Milner Ltd. One year later, the plumbers merchant was incorporated in to the builders merchant and the company was renamed Grant & Stone Ltd.

The friendly attitude and great service offered by the company soon helped it establish itself as the leading builders merchant in High Wycombe. To compliment this, in 1994, a decorators merchants was added to the existing site in Baker Street offering an extensive range of paints and decorating materials.

In 1996, the company further expanded, purchasing a well established builders merchant in Chalfont St Peter. Again, by concentrating on providing customers with the best possible service, complimented by competitive prices, the small yard has grown in to one of our biggest success stories.

1997 saw us going back to our roots and opening an independent plumbers merchant on the Vale Industrial Estate, Aylesbury. This not only opened up a new market for us in Aylesbury but also strengthened the existing plumbing operation in High Wycombe.

The turn of the new millennium saw Grant & Stone branch out into the electrical distributor market with a branch opening up on the Cressex Business Park in High Wycombe. To date, it is exceeding all expectations and is a great asset to the company.

Due to demand for plumbing & heating at our Baker Street depot, and our commitment to customer service, in 2001 it was decided to open a new dedicated plumbing and heating branch at the Wye Estate off the London Road in High Wycombe. This new outlet meant we could greatly improve our service to plumbing & heating customers, while at the same time enabled us to dedicate more space and resources to the supply of building materials from our Baker Street branch.

A great addition to the company came in January 2002 when we opened a new dedicated heavy side building branch in Slough. This branch has enabled us to not only improve our service and gain new customers but also enhance our service to existing customers, while at the same time expand our product ranges and resources.

April 2004 saw the opening of our exclusive bathroom showroom in High Wycombe next to our existing plumbers merchants at Wye Industrial Estate. The bathroom showroom catered for trade and retail alike with a wide range of new products added to our portfolio.

In November 2006, Grant & Stone set up a large branch in Amersham. Set out on three levels, it incorporates a plumbers merchants and bathroom showroom with a large storage facility. This branch is in a prime location situated in White Lion Road, the main road from Amersham to Little Chalfont.

In July 2007, Grant & Stone branched out into a new geographical area with a plumbers merchants and bathroom showroom in Maidenhead shortly followed by a new electrical wholesalers next door in September. The additional electrical wholesalers, plumbers merchants and bathroom showroom are a great asset with a whole host of new products and manufacturers.

Our latest builders merchants opened in November 2007, and is located in Joel Street, Pinner. This was an acquisition of a company called Lander Bros. This already established merchants was purchased to enhance Grant & Stone’s portfolio and expand our coverage into the West London area.

Our most recent branch is in Oxford which opened in May 2008. This plumbers merchants and bathroom showroom has exceeded all expectations since its opening. The bathroom showroom has an excellent look and feel to it catering for all budgets. They are also well equipped to serve small and larger plumbers and heating contractors.
